The 2020 Census is underway, and households across the United States are responding every day. By now, you likely have received multiple mailings from the U.S. Census Bureau, including an invitation to respond to the 2020 Census and follow-up postcards and letters.
The results of the 2020 Census will help determine how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding flow into communities every year for the next decade. That funding shapes many different aspects of every community—no matter the size, no matter the location.
The 2020 Census is a massive undertaking. It requires counting a diverse and growing population. The census questionnaire asks a few simple questions about you and everyone who was living with you on April 1, 2020. You can still respond online at 2020census.gov — without ever having to leave home or meet a census taker.
If you do not respond online or by phone, you may also receive a paper questionnaire so you can respond by mail. Even if you receive a paper questionnaire, you can still respond online at 2020census.gov.
